I always happen to watch the Harry Potter movies on the third day after its release in India. For the first time, I watched the movie here in the United States on the second day. Technically speaking, it turned out to be the third day in India because of the time difference. :P
The movie was awesome. The review will follow this post sooner. What I would like to talk about in this post is the audience.
Almost two months back, I saw the movie 'Endhiran' in US the second day itself. It was $21, an amount that I would never regret paying for a Rajini movie although that is the most costliest ticket that I bought so far for a movie. One of my North Indian friends told, “I guess that is cheaper for you guys considering the ticket price in your hometown”. I agreed cause watching Rajini's movie in the second day itself in India is like getting special Dharisanam in a temple. The theaters all over the world such as theatres in New Jersey, Los Angeles, New York, Singapore, Malaysia had tickets sold out very fast. One theater revealed to its surprise that the tickets for the entire first week was sold within the first 10 minutes. Such is the effect of Rajini.
We reached the theater an hour back and for good reasons. A short queue had already formed outside the theater to get the tickets. One thing that is unfair in the theaters here is that no matter when you get the tickets, the seats are always first come first serve. No seating number and no reservations of any specific seats. After a while, a very huge crowd had gathered behind us. We got good seats and although, the audience's shouts and whistles wouldn't match the ones heard in the theaters in Tamil Nadu, it was still awesome. When we came out, an even bigger queue was waiting to see the next show.
That was catching the Indian audience in US theaters. For the first time, I caught such a huge crowd in US after the Endhiran movie. That was for the HP movie. People were standing in line for such a long time to not miss the good seats. It was just the second day and I could see the vast crowd of different categories – ones who grew up reading Harry Potter, ones who are still in their tiny tots, ones in their schools, ones who have read the books and also seen the movies, ones who have not read the books but seen the movies, and the others who have neither read the books nor saw the movies. This movie was awesome again. Because of bad luck, we had to sit in the second row from the first but luckily in that, I found the center seat when we had a worst corner seat initially. But nothing could stop us from enjoying the first part of the final Harry Potter movies.
