‘Illogical’. Such word has been cast as a persona for a popular Tamil actor who has been in the industry for more than 15 years. His stereotype roles as a hero are often been criticized even before the release of his movies. There were days when these so-called illogical scenes were often forgotten. Nowadays, it so happens that these scenes are the reason that the people want to watch the movie. They claim it as fun. Yes, he jumps off a long distance to catch a train. He does ride a car using his mouth. I don’t deny the fact that such scenes are illogical but I have to put forth the points that he is not alone in doing such scenes.
No I am not going to talk about heroes who turned as politicians or a famous hero who could make trains move with a flick of his hand. I am going to talk about movies which are considered to be a big hit but yet have those scenes. There may be plenty of scenes in that movie but I am willing to point out either one or two.
Recently, I saw a Telugu movie that was well taken. It is a fantasy movie centered on ancient age and rebirth. The movie was good but there is one scene where the hero tries to catch a horse. That is where the logic breaks. Here is the portrayal of that scene in words. The horse is running towards him and he starts running in the direction of the horse. Just when the horse overtakes him, he uses his gymnastic tactics to mount the horse. He jumps over several vehicles including a car that is running in the opposite direction and uses that force as a leverage to mount the horse. After seeing the scene, one should be like “What the hell just happened?”. Logic defied.
There is a famous Hindi movie whose prequel is a blockbuster. The sequel is also a hit for various reasons. The film deals with the story of robbery and police chase. In this movie, the hero who acts as the thief uses several robbery tactics that involves technology. There are several scenes which completely defies logic. In one scene, he is caught by the police for inspection. He would be standing on top of a drainage lid and he presses a button that lets acid emit from his shoes. The acid crafts a hole in the drainage lid making him fall inside the drainage thus leading to his escape. If that is not enough, he flies out (yes, literally!) from another end of the drainage with a completely different refreshed look and also with a pair of glasses. There is another scene from the same movie where he uses magnet, which are attached to his hands, to fix his grip on moving vehicles, to change vehicles and also to move in the traffic. Logic defied.
There is a famous Hollywood movie that has several illogical scenes including the opening scene of the movie. In that scene, a guy in a top floor of a skyscraper is being targeted for murder by goons from another such building. The target instead of running for his life jumps out of the building breaking the glass exteriors and shoots his enemies in the millisecond duration that he gets (the director manages to get away with that by claiming that the guy has an anxiety disorder which could make people have stimulus as 10 times faster than normal people). However, the illogical scene is the one when the target manages to jump to the other building and finishes off the only remaining enemy. In the end, he gets shot by a sniper who is probably a km away and the sniper’s accuracy is such that he precisely calculates the aim as to miss the narrow gap between buildings. Again logic defied.
The point that I am trying to emphasize is that the Tamil actor, who is being targeted, is not the only one. There are several people including other Tamil actors and Indian actors who defy logic in several places in the name of heroism. Blaming this actor alone for defying logic is completely unfair. In the cinema world of heroism and entertainment, anything is possible. If we compare it with day to day life, bring out faults and declare them to be bad, then we won’t have any movies left.
